VRChat Now Available on the Vive XR Elite Standalone Store
Learn about the latest updates and features of VRChat on the Vive XR Elite standalone store.
VRChat's Popularity on Meta Quest and Steam
VRChat remains the leading social VR platform, attracting millions of users. It consistently ranks among the top 10 most popular apps on Meta Quest headsets and has tens of thousands of concurrent players on Steam.
Originally launched as a surprise title for the Oculus Quest in 2019, VRChat has expanded to Android phones and Pico 4 this year.
However, due to the limitations of mobile chipsets, PC worlds and avatars in VRChat require a mobile-optimized version to ensure seamless performance for standalone VR and phone players.
VRChat on Vive XR Elite: Controller-Free Hand Tracking and More
VRChat recently added support for controller-free hand tracking on the Quest. Now, Vive XR Elite also supports hand tracking, although controllers are still required at the moment.
However, one exciting feature VRChat on Vive XR Elite offers is body tracking. Users can strap on the newly-launched Vive Ultimate Trackers to their body for a more immersive experience.
The Vive Ultimate Tracker bundle, priced at $600, includes trackers for torso and feet. Until the end of the year, HTC is providing free straps to attach these trackers to your body. Additionally, HTC offers a Vive XR Elite bundle priced at $1500, which includes three Vive Ultimate Trackers and straps, saving $250 compared to buying them separately.
Vive Ultimate Trackers: The Future of Body Tracking
Vive Ultimate Trackers utilize inside-out tracking technology to provide full body tracking for Vive XR Elite without the need for base stations.
Compared to Sony's $450 Mocopi, which works with VRChat on Meta Quest standalone, the Vive Ultimate Trackers bundle is priced higher. However, the Vive Ultimate Trackers offer true six degrees of freedom (6DoF) tracking, while Mocopi relies on accelerometers and gyroscopes combined with a skeletal estimation model.
With its latest updates and advancements, VRChat on the Vive XR Elite standalone store promises an enhanced social VR experience for users.
