POWER TRIP Members Play Surprise Set in Austin

Surviving members of the band POWER TRIP, including Blake Ibanez, Nick Stewart, Chris Whetzel, and Chris Ulsh, surprised fans with a five-song set in Austin, Texas. The surprise performance took place at Mohawk and featured guest vocalist Seth Gilmore from SKOURGE and FUGITIVE.

After FUGITIVE finished their set, Gilmore and Blake remained on stage and were soon joined by Stewart, Whetzel, and Ulsh. Together, they performed POWER TRIP songs such as 'Soul Sacrifice', 'Executioner's Tax', 'Hornet's Nest', 'Manifest Decimation', and 'Crucifixation'. A fan-filmed video of the set can be found below.

Special Guest Teased at the Show

Prior to the gig, the venue teased a 'special guest' on the concert flyer and urged fans not to miss the show. The event also featured openers DRESSCODE and NINTH CIRCLE. Less than 100 tickets were left before the show.

The surprise set by the surviving POWER TRIP members came after the tragic death of their frontman, Riley Gale, on August 25, 2020. Gale's death was ruled accidental, caused by the toxic effects of fentanyl.

Numerous artists, including members of CODE ORANGE, ANTHRAX, and COHEED AND CAMBRIA, paid tribute to Gale after his passing. Gale had also collaborated with BODY COUNT on the song 'Point The Finger' from their album 'Carnivore' released earlier in 2020.

Autopsy Report Reveals Cause of Riley Gale's Death

The autopsy report for Riley Gale revealed that he died from pulmonary edema, caused by the toxic effects of fentanyl. The report also noted that Gale had a history of Xanax abuse and depression.

Gale was found unresponsive on the floor at home. His blood tested positive for fentanyl at a concentration of 22.5 ng/ml, with no other drugs or alcohol detected.

In honor of Gale, plans were announced to establish the Riley Gale Library at the Dallas Hope Center, a shelter for LGBTQ+ youth.
