Icon of the Seas Begins Maiden Voyage

Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world, embarked on its first-ever journey from the Port of Miami. The ship stretches nearly 1,200 feet from bow to stern and is embarking on a week-long island-hopping tour in the tropics.

On Tuesday, the Icon was officially christened with the assistance of soccer star Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami teammates. The ship took 900 days to construct at a shipyard in Turku, Finland, and consists of 20 decks that can accommodate a maximum of 7,600 passengers and a crew of 2,350.

Unparalleled Entertainment and Recreation Offerings

During its sold-out inaugural voyage, the Icon of the Seas will boast a range of entertainment options. The ship will feature 50 musicians and comedians, along with a 16-piece orchestra.

Passengers will have access to an array of amenities, including six waterslides, seven swimming pools, an ice skating rink, a theater, and over 40 restaurants, bars, and lounges.

Eco-Friendly Power Source

The $2 billion Icon ship incorporates the latest technology and a sustainable power source. Royal Caribbean Group claims that the Icon is powered by eco-friendly Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

While LNG is considered more environmentally friendly than other fuel sources, some experts have expressed concerns about potential methane gas leaks.

Nevertheless, Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO Jason Liberty stated that the Icon of the Seas represents the company's commitment to delivering exceptional vacation experiences in a responsible manner.
