NASCAR has reinstated Cup Series driver Cody Ware after assault charges against him and his then-girlfriend were dismissed.
NASCAR Reinstates Cody Ware
NASCAR has lifted the suspension of Cup Series driver Cody Ware, who was suspended in April following an altercation with his then-girlfriend.
Assault charges against Ware and his girlfriend were dismissed as they both chose not to cooperate with prosecutors.
Ware was arrested in April on charges of assault by strangulation and assault causing serious injury.
Dismissal of Charges and Civil Litigation
The Iredell County district attorney’s office dropped the charges against Ware and his girlfriend, citing the inability to proceed without their testimony.
Furthermore, the civil litigation filed by Ware's family and Rick Ware Racing team against his former girlfriend is expected to be dismissed as well.
The team had lost millions of dollars in sponsorships and spent a considerable amount on replacement drivers.
Ware's Statement and Career
Cody Ware has maintained his innocence throughout the whole ordeal and expressed relief that the matter is finally behind him.
He thanked NASCAR for reinstating him and looks forward to getting his life back on track.
In his racing career, Ware has one top-10 finish in 97 Cup Series starts.
