Half Price Pets and Animals at Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter
The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is reducing adoption fees by half until January 3 due to a surge in homeless pets.
Adoption Fees Reduced for Pets
The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is offering a special discount on adoption fees this holiday season. The shelter has decided to reduce fees by half in response to the ongoing increase in homeless pets following the COVID-19 pandemic.
From now until January 3, puppies under 6 months old can be adopted for $105, adult dogs for $75, kittens for $60, adult cats for $50, and rabbits for $35. These fees include vaccinations, spay or neuter surgery, and a microchip.
Available Animals at the Shelter
As of December 24, the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter had 24 dogs, 56 cats, and 14 rabbits available for adoption. In addition, there were three roosters, a parakeet, and a turtle. Some of the animals looking for a loving home include Max, a fluffy Great Pyrenees who enjoys car rides and gets along well with other dogs; Jaspurr, a grey-and-white cat who is known for being adventurous and leading the way; and Squirt, a turtle who was found abandoned in a local pond despite not being native to the area.
The shelter's manager, Amber Rowland, expressed the need to find loving homes for the animals due to the high number of pets in their care. The decision to offer half-price adoptions was made to encourage more adoptions and alleviate the strain on the shelter's staff.
The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is located at 1001 Rodriguez Street and operates from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., excluding Christmas and New Year's Day.
