'Lovable' Dog at Shelter for Over 900 Days Is Returned 1 Day After Her Long-Awaited Adoption
Labrador retriever/pit bull mix Sora spent over two and a half years at Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California before being adopted, only to be returned the next day.
Sora's Long Journey
Sora, a labrador-pitbull mix, has spent over two and a half years at the Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California. The dog first arrived at the shelter after being surrendered by her previous owner.
Despite being described as lovable and great with humans and children, Sora had difficulty attracting potential adopters. Shelter workers were surprised by this, as they had gotten to know Sora well.
Recently, a prospective owner decided to adopt Sora, bringing hope to the shelter. However, just 24 hours later, the new owner called to inform the shelter that they would be returning the dog.
A Quick Reversal
The quick return of Sora to the shelter raised questions about the new owner's decision. Valley Animal Center's graphic web designer, Sim Kaur, criticized the lack of time given for Sora to adjust to her new home.
Kaur stated that Sora should have been given more time to decompress and gradually introduced to her new family members. Unfortunately, the hasty decision resulted in Sora being brought back to the shelter.
The shelter shared a Facebook Reel highlighting the experiences of dogs, like Sora, who were returned after being adopted. The video illustrates the hope these dogs feel when entering a new home, only to be disappointed when they find themselves back in the shelter.
Continued Search for a Forever Home
Despite her setback, Sora is still searching for her forever home. Valley Animal Center continues to advocate for her, highlighting her traits that make her a perfect fit for an active household.
The shelter emphasizes that with love, patience, and the right environment, Sora can overcome her reactive behavior and become the happy and goofy dog she is meant to be.
