NASCAR successfully completes Phoenix short-track test
NASCAR conducted a two-day test at Phoenix Raceway to improve the short-track package for the upcoming season.
Drivers participate in the Phoenix test
Six drivers, including Ryan Blaney and Corey LaJoie, participated in the Phoenix test to represent their respective original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
The teams started the test by running the same short-track package and tire combination that was used in the finale one month ago.
This setup was derived from a similar test conducted at Richmond Raceway in August.
Aerodynamic modifications and new tires tested
After the baseline test, aerodynamic modifications were made with alternate designs for the splitter and diffuser.
In addition, new Goodyear tires were introduced to create more fall off during green-flag runs, aiming to promote passing on short tracks.
These changes have been pursued since the introduction of the Next Gen car.
Promising results and potential changes for next season
The test provided NASCAR with a good sense of direction for the short-track package in relation to aerodynamics and tires.
Based on feedback from the drivers, the simplified diffuser and a new tire combination are among the potential changes that may be implemented next season.
Overall, the test was successful in achieving its goals.
