Bryce Harper Embracing First Base Role

After successfully transitioning to first base last season, Bryce Harper has fully embraced his new position. The Philadelphia Phillies announced in November that Harper will be their regular first baseman moving forward. Harper spoke to reporters about the situation, stating that he is on board with whatever the team wants. He expressed his willingness to play right field if needed but understands that first base is where the team wants him. Harper is now focusing on improving at his new position during Spring Training.

Additionally, Harper has confirmed his interest in extending his contract. Despite having eight seasons and $196 million remaining on his current contract, Harper wants to play into his 40s and hopes to get a new deal done. It remains to be seen if negotiations will take place.

Chris Sale Optimistic About Injury-Free Offseason

Braves starter Chris Sale is looking forward to an injury-free offseason for the first time since 2018. Sale has battled through multiple injury-plagued seasons but had a successful winter, allowing him to play baseball and do things he hasn't been able to do in a while. The Braves have shown confidence in Sale's ability to rebound by acquiring him from the Red Sox and signing him to a two-year extension. The team even explored acquiring Sale during the 2023 season.

The left-handed pitcher's health will be crucial for the Braves as he enters his age-35 season.

Kyle Crick Recovering from Calf Strain

New York Mets reliever Kyle Crick is currently recovering from a Grade 4 calf strain. His injury may delay his bullpen sessions until closer to the end of Spring Training. Crick signed a minor league deal with the Mets in December and understands that he may not make the Opening Day roster due to his injury. He is willing to pitch in the minors to regain full health.

Crick has a solid track record, posting a 3.56 ERA over 187 1/3 relief innings from 2017-2022. He did not pitch in 2023 until playing in the Dominican Winter League a few months ago.
