Luetge's MLB Career

Lucas Luetge made his MLB debut in 2012 as a member of the Mariners. He had a decent rookie season with a 3.98 ERA and 4.03 FIP.

However, control issues plagued Luetge as he walked an elevated 13.5% of batters faced during his first season in the majors.

Over the next three seasons, Luetge moved between Triple-A and the majors, posting a 4.66 ERA and 4.47 FIP in 48 major league appearances.

He also managed a slightly stronger 4.21 ERA across 94 appearances in the minors before being outrighted to the minors in 2015.

Success with the Yankees

In 2021 and '22, Luetge had the best seasons of his career with the Yankees, pitching to a 2.71 ERA and 2.92 FIP.

During those two seasons, he struck out 25% of batters faced and walked just 5.8%, earning him high-leverage opportunities with the club.

However, Luetge's time with the Yankees came to an end when he was designated for assignment during the 2022-23 offseason.

Recent Stints and Return to the AL East

After being traded to the Braves, Luetge struggled and was ultimately outrighted to Triple-A.

He returned to the big league club after the All Star break and pitched well in three appearances.

However, the Braves did not retain him on the 40-man roster, and he elected free agency.

Now, Luetge joins the Red Sox in search of a big league role, and he will be competing in the bullpen alongside Brennan Bernardino, Jorge Benitez, Cam Booser, Joe Jacques, and others.
