Second Thoughts on NASCAR: Has the Clash run its course in L.A.?

The Future of the Clash

The temporary track concept is a good one for the Clash, but the event lost some of its buzz in its third year at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Despite the excitement, the forecast of a dangerous rainstorm forced NASCAR to run the race a day earlier than planned.

Finding a suitable location for the Clash is a challenge. There are limited stadiums that have the necessary dimensions for an oval track, and it takes weeks to prepare the track surface and set up the walls and catchfence. One potential solution could be for NASCAR to host the event in an international market with its Cup Series, although there are logistical considerations to address.

Returning the Clash to Daytona, where it was previously held on the oval and road course, is also a possibility. However, some fans believe that the limited field at Daytona doesn't create enough excitement, as it often leads to equipment damage without providing much insight due to fewer cars on the track.

What Should NASCAR's Goal Be?

NASCAR's goal with the Clash should be to find a venue and market that creates buzz and offers a unique experience. While Daytona has traditionally been associated with NASCAR events, it may not be the best fit for the Clash since it already hosts two other major races. The search is on for NASCAR to find the next ideal venue that will generate excitement and set the stage for the start of the season.
