Guerrero Wins Record Arbitration Settlement
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has emerged victorious in salary arbitration, securing a record-breaking $19.9 million settlement against the Toronto Blue Jays. This decision was made by a three-person panel, which favored Guerrero's request over the team's offer of $18.05 million.
The arbitration panel, consisting of Scott Buchheit, Walt De Treux, and Jeanne Charles, made their decision after listening to arguments from both sides. With this win, players now hold a 6-2 advantage in arbitration hearings this year, with 10 cases still pending.
Guerrero's Impressive Career
Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the son of Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero, has had a remarkable career with the Blue Jays. Over his five seasons with the team, he has accumulated a .279 batting average, 130 home runs, and 404 RBIs.
In 2021, Guerrero had his best season, tying for the MLB lead with 48 home runs and batting .311 with 111 RBIs. He also won a Gold Glove in 2022 and claimed victory in last year's All-Star Home Run Derby. He is set to become a free agent after the 2025 season.
J.D. Davis's Arbitration Case
In addition to Guerrero's arbitration victory, utilityman J.D. Davis also went to a hearing on Wednesday. Davis requested a raise from $4.21 million to $6.9 million, challenging the San Francisco Giants' offer of $6.55 million.
Davis, who played his first full season with the Giants last year after being acquired from the New York Mets, hit .248 with 18 home runs and 69 RBIs. A versatile player who can play third base, first base, and the outfield, Davis will be eligible for free agency after this year's World Series.
