Embiid's 30-10 Streak Extends to 13 Games Despite Ankle Injury
Joel Embiid played through an ankle injury to push his 30-10 streak to 13 games, finishing with 31 points and 10 rebounds in the Philadelphia 76ers' victory over the Toronto Raptors.
Embiid's 30-10 Streak Continues
Joel Embiid scored 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the Philadelphia 76ers' 121-111 win over the Toronto Raptors, extending his streak of consecutive 30-point, 10-rebound games to 13. Embiid landed awkwardly on his ankle in the first quarter but played through the injury.
The last time a player achieved a 30-10 streak for 13 games or more was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the 1971-72 season. Only two other players in NBA history, Elgin Baylor and Wilt Chamberlain, have recorded 30 points and 10 rebounds in 13 or more consecutive games.
Embiid's performance also included a stretch of scoring 30 or more points in 14 straight games, the most since James Harden's 32-game streak in the 2018-19 season.
Impressive Stats Through 25 Games
Through the first 25 games of the season, Joel Embiid has put up impressive numbers. He is the first player to record 850 points, 250 rebounds, and 150 assists in this span.
Embiid's scoring ability is also evident by being the only player since Michael Jordan in the 1986-87 season to score 30 or more points in 20 of his first 25 games.
Additionally, in the shot-clock era, only Chamberlain, Harden, and Giannis Antetokounmpo have averaged 1 point per minute for at least 25 games. Embiid joins this elite group with his performance.
Ankle Injury and Return
During the game, Joel Embiid suffered an ankle injury but continued playing. He briefly went to the locker room in the first quarter but returned in the second and finished the game with 31 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists, and four blocks.
The reigning NBA MVP showed signs of discomfort and favored his right leg throughout the game but powered through in the second half. Coach Nick Nurse confirmed the ankle injury but expects Embiid to be sore and will monitor his condition before their next game against Miami.
