Kawhi Leonard Signs Extension with LA Clippers

Kawhi Leonard has agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $153 million with the LA Clippers, according to sources. The deal will pay Leonard $52 million in the first year and approximately $50 million per season over the next two years. The extension does not include a player option.

The Clippers officially announced the extension, although the exact terms were not disclosed. Leonard's extension comes as he is having a healthy and productive season with the Clippers, and it ensures that he will continue to be their franchise star as they move into their new Intuit Dome next season.

The Clippers are also in ongoing extension talks with Paul George, aiming to secure long-term contracts for both of their stars.

Impressive Season for Leonard

Kawhi Leonard has been enjoying one of his healthiest and most productive seasons as a member of the Clippers. In 32 games this season, he is averaging 23.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game while shooting 51.6% from the field and 43% from behind the arc. Since a slow start, the Clippers have won 20 of their past 26 games, and Leonard's consistent performance has been a major factor in their success.

Leonard's extension also comes with a player option worth $48.7 million for next season, which he had until June 30 to sign. The Clippers are eager to secure long-term deals for both Leonard and Paul George, who also has a player option for next season.

Both Leonard and George entered the season eligible for a maximum extension of four years and $223 million.

Excitement for the Future

The LA Clippers expressed their delight in extending their partnership with Kawhi Leonard. Lawrence Frank, the Clippers' president of basketball operations, stated, "We're thrilled to continue our relationship with Kawhi. He is an elite player, a terrific partner, and a relentless worker who knows how to win. He elevated our franchise from the moment he arrived, and we feel fortunate that he chose to join the Clippers five years ago. We are excited to keep building with him."

With Leonard and George locked in, the Clippers will look to build upon their success and contend for a championship in the coming years. The franchise will have a strong foundation with their two stars leading the way.
